Book Guide by K-BOOKS AND MORE
The protagonist, ‘오영아 (Oh Young-a)’, is someone who is considerate of others, endures hardship, and forces herself to smile and apologize to avoid conflicts. However, as a result of this behavior, she ultimately suffers from depression and lethargy. To seek psychological help, she undergoes an emotional regulation treatment at a research center that promises effects lasting four weeks. During this treatment, she loses complete control over her emotions. Her repressed desires, anger, and frustrations begin to surface, and she expresses them towards those around her. While she feels self-reproach, the intense sense of liberation she experiences is irresistible. However, it is a sci-fi mystery novel that arouses curiosity about what kind of ending awaits her when the effects of the treatment wear off.
Although some parts of the language and expressions may be challenging, it is a worthwhile read for intermediate Korean learners.
